Dr. Angela Kennedy, a native Floridian, received her education from pre-school to postgraduate all here in the Orlando area. Her Bachelor's degree is in Communicative Disorders from the University of Central Florida. She attended NOVA Southeastern University to obtain a Master's in Early Childhood Education and a Doctoral degree in Organizational Leadership. For six years Angela worked as an Office Manager at a Chiropractic Clinic while pursuing her bachelor's degree and was then given the opportunity to be the director of a growing medical training school. At that time, she was a single parent and seemed to have been raising her daughter all of her life. For the past thirteen years, Dr. Kennedy was employed with Orange County Public Schools as a kindergarten and first grade teacher, Reading, Instructional and Academic Coach, along with coordinating Curriculum Compliance for the English Language Learners (ELL). She has always been aware of leadership skills she possesses and strives to mature those skills to be an effective leader in all of her endeavors.
In 2006, Dr. Kennedy established a tutorial service that services students from pre-k through 5th grade. This business has prospered and was recently approved as a vendor for the State of Florida Supplemental Education Services. The students and parents she works with not only value their relationship with her, but demonstrate academic success in school and state mandated assessments. She is now continuing her dream of developing a Non Profit Community based program, Phoenix Tree Educational Foundation, which was incorporated in November 2012 to service the needs of individuals and families. This corporation includes a school, Deeper Root Academy, with after school enrichment programs for pre-school through eighth grade students and A Brighter Day Enrichment Services to meet all aspects of development within the community and family. Accepting her mistakes and obstacles early in life as growth opportunities was and remains the catalyst, to propel her aspirations into destiny.
Angela’s passion is for people. It brings her such joy to see others prosper and grow. It is this desire to serve that began her seeking different opportunities to impact the lives of not just children, but adults also. Since 2007, she has been an instructor with the University of Phoenix where she teaches in the colleges of Arts and Science and Education. Through this employment, she has had the opportunity to not only facilitate the learning of many students, but also create resource tools, curriculum, facilitate professional development with faculty and participate as a Subject Matter Expert which encompassed the revision and development of courses with the curriculum development team in Phoenix, Arizona. Every opportunity given has enhanced her experience and fueled her drive to educate others.
Dr. Kennedy has come to understand that anything is possible if you only believe, although she admits that she did not always share this belief. In her teenage years, Angela made many wrong choices that lead to increased pressures and being thrust into adulthood prematurely. However, she now believes that understanding your past, accepting it, and turning those obstacles into stepping-stones will place you on the road to success. Looking back over her life, she has often wondered how she got here. Her resolve is that it is destiny, determination, her faith and family that will always drive her to strive for excellence. Dr. Kennedy desires to help as many as she can to maximize their potential. This portion of her life is filled with wonderful experiences that include marriage to the love of her life, her beautiful children who are discovering the great individuals they are and will become and taking the necessary steps in realizing her dreams. While there are more opportunities to come, she is equal to the challenges and pursuing all that she can while she has the ability to increase her knowledge and understanding. Loving herself, forgiving and letting go of the pain of the past has been the fuel to bring her dreams into fruition.
