2021-2022 Covid 19 School Year FAQs
Q. How will social distancing work for our classes?
A. Classrooms will follow social distancing guidelines by implementing desk shields for Kindergarten through eighth grades. When students are not at their desks, students will be using face shields. In the Preschool classrooms (K2, K3, K4), students will be wearing a safety full-face shield hat.
Q. How will gym/fitness work?
A. Physical education courses will be modified to address the physical environment, including outdoor instruction (weather permitting) with social distancing guidelines, personal hygiene that includes hand washing and instructional strategies that focus more on individual pursuits or skills. Students should come to school dressed in the required PE uniform.
Q. What supply requirements are needed?
A. Students should bring a reusable water bottle to school each day. Students should also supply their own mask covering.
Q. What happens if my child has been exposed to Covid19?
A. School administration should be notified immediately of any possible exposure. Per CDC Guidelines, a teacher or student who may have been exposed should be quarantined for ten days from the date of possible exposure. If no symptoms have been recorded after ten days, the teacher or student may return to on-campus learning.
Q. What if my child was exposed but has a negative test result?
A. Per CDC guidelines, a child exposed with a negative test result will still need to quarantine for ten days to help prevent spread of the disease that can occur before the person knows they may have the virus. When diagnostic testing resources are sufficient and available, then quarantine can end after day seven if a diagnostic specimen tests negative and if no symptoms were reported during daily monitoring. The specimen may be collected and tested within 48 hours before the time of planned quarantine discontinuation (e.g., in anticipation of testing delays), but quarantine cannot be discontinued earlier than after day seven. With this strategy, the residual post-quarantine transmission risk is estimated to be about 5% with an upper limit of about 12%.
Q. If any child has COVID or is placed in quarantine, will my child be able to continue working on class work virtually until a return to school is possible?
A. Students in quarantine will continue their learning experience using the DRALive@Home platform which can always be accessed virtually. Any materials or equipment may be picked up from the campus.
Q. What is the procedure in the event one or more positive cases are identified and quarantine for the exposed students and teachers is required?
A. In the event of a group exposure, both students and teachers who are sick or in quarantine will be able to temporarily move to Distance Learning.
Q. Masks make it difficult for students to hear. How will students be able to hear teacher instruction?
A. Teachers will use face shields when giving instruction.
Q. Can we purchase extra art/classroom supplies for our students so students don’t have to share supplies?
A. You do not have to purchase additional supplies. School supplies will be provided for each student so no sharing will be necessary.
Q. What will happen at lunch? Will lunch be delivered to classrooms?
A. The school food service team is following very strict safety and sanitation measures. All food will be served in an individualized food container or pre-packaged meal, then students will eat in the classroom.
Q. How do we manage school hallways? Social distancing up to 6 feet will be enforced when feasible; there will be limited movement among students and staff.
Q. Are we taking temperatures? Who is responsible? What if my family does not own a thermometer or mask? Will the school provide these?
A. We recommend that families check temperatures daily before students depart for school. In addition, the front office staff will also check temperatures daily upon arrival. All students over the age of two are required to wear PPE.
Q. How will fire drills work?
A. Fire drills will be conducted in a manner that ensures appropriate social distancing and the wearing of face coverings by everyone, throughout the drill. Students will be organized in lines with separation of 6 feet or more between individuals when feasible. Students, in groups, will exit the school at appropriate social distances from other students and other groups. Once outside the school, instructors will reinforce social distancing among individuals and groups until recalled into the school. The return to school will follow the same procedure - in reverse, as how they exited.
Q. How will [student] drop off and pick up times be handled?
A. Arrival- Arriving students may be dropped off in front of the car loop and will proceed directly to the front office. All preschool students must be walked into the building by an adult. All students will be escorted to their classroom by a teacher or patrol.
Dismissal- Students who are car riders will wait to be called from the Car Loop Coordinator who will communicate which student is being picked up for dismissal.
Q. How will you keep the student groups from interacting?
A. The movement of students will be limited during the school day and social distancing will be expected. In addition, face shields and/or masks will be worn.
Q. What happens if a kid starts coughing or looks sick in class? What happens when a student has a different illness such as the flu? What if symptoms mimic Covid-19?
A. The front office will notify parents when a child has a fever or other symptoms that prevent them from remaining at school. The front office staff is not legally certified or responsible for diagnosing student medical concerns.
