During our study of plants, students were able to engage in the process of growing their very own Lima Bean. We were able to actively participate in the scientific process of making hypotheses, doing research and making observations. We documented our observations in our observation logs which helped us to make inferences and draw conclusions about our plants.
Each student then did additional research on another plant of their choice, organized their findings and prepared their presentation based on a rubric provided. The students were able to give an oral presentation during class to display their research. They were able to apply the process and be active participants which created memories with the learning. When learning can be tied to a memory, knowledge learned moves from short to long term memory which has lasting effects.
